Rescue of the American Auto Industry-An Obama Administration Success Story

January 30th, 2012

Researched and written by Deb and Alex MacDonald, Tanque Verde Valley Democratic Club

In 2008 and 2009, with the meltdown of the financial markets, the great American Auto Industry, one of the bedrocks of the modern world, was in dire trouble.  With only one automaker (Ford) in operation, the American auto industry was about to become an insignificant player in the global auto market.  Simply put, ‘‘1.14M jobs were at stake as well as $97B in personal business losses” according to the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  With no bank or financial institution willing or capable of funding the recovery, President Obama under TARP authority issued a fund allocation of $40B to provide operating cash and to keep car loans available for car buyers.  The result is that his courage and determination despite many naysayers have paid off handsomely.  General Motors and Chrysler are back in the black and doing better than ever. To kick off Campaign 2012, please join us from 2:00-4:00 on Sunday, February 5, in the Kirk-Bear Canyon Library with our special guest, Richard Carmona, a Democratic candidate for the US Senate.

Dr. Carmona is a combat-decorated Army veteran, a surgeon, and the former Surgeon General of the United States. He resides in Tucson and has contributed to our community in many capacities through the years. Visit his website www.carmonaforarizona.com for complete information on his background and campaign.

In addition to meeting Dr. Carmona, you’ll get to meet many fellow Democrats in the area and learn about the Tanque Verde Valley Democratic Club. We’ll fill you in on our activities for this year, as well as opportunities for you to get involved.

As you know, everything is on the line this year: the Presidency, one U.S. Senator, our member of Congress, our State Legislators, and our County Supervisor. We must do as much as possible to fill these seats with Democrats, and your help is needed.  Bring your ideas, questions, and enthusiasm.  Working together we can win these races.

Please visit our website: www.tanqueverdedems.org to see what’s going on, and click on the Membership link to receive updates.  We will see you on February 5th!

Sincerely yours,
