Sunday, 19 March 2006, The Pima County Democratic Party Committee held a special meeting at the Tucson Convention Center to elect a new chair to replace Paul Eckerstrom. Steve Larsen, Henry Johnson, and Joe Theobald were there to help elect Donna Branch-Gilby our new County Chair. Please extend a warm welcome and offer of help to her whenever you see her.
The Governor was in town on Saturday to collect donations and signatures to support her clean campaign. The fun was supposed to begin at 9:00 am at the Knights of Columbus hall on Tucson Blvd, South of Broadway. Some folks planned to walk in their own districts to collect nominating petition signatures for themselves as Precinct Committeemen, candidates such as Janet Napolitano, Terry Goddard, Jim Pederson, or others. Please post comments on how it all went. Thanks.
We had a joint meeting on Monday night to hear some of our current crop of candidates. Francine Shacter, running for Congress, CD-8, spoke first. She’s a smart lady with a lot to offer. After her, Slade Mead and Jason Williams shared the stage for a debate moderated by Bob Schwartz. Tough questions were fielded that came from representatives of the press and the audience, which exceeded fifty folks. I was impressed by the quality of these two guys and am now in a quandary who to support.
